L shaped livingrm. Going to put a fireplace/heater I inherited on the furthest wall behind the TV. Wall to left of that & wall TV is attached to needs something other than paint. My St Bernard likes to lay & 'run in her sleep' & gouged my wall. Behind the camera is the 'short end of the L' where my couches & chair are.
Suggestions? I love stone or brick or some unique (easy) treatment that will stand up to the claws.
Excuse the mess. Its a very high trafficked area.
She seems happy to stay in the kitchen while we do our make over.
Your dog is such a cutie!! Perhaps you can do a shiplap wall or a faux stone wall. They sell them in sheets and they're easy to install, but it's a little expensive. Also, if you get your "baby" a bed with side walls on three sides, when she runs in her sleep she won't hit the walls. We had to do that for our Siberian Husky and it worked!
How bowed is the wall? A slight bow can be adjusted for by using a thicker line of adhesive or buy shims or paint stirrers and glue them in the bowed area to level wall. A large bow would probably need to be sheet rocked first. I solved a huge bow (almost 1/2" deep) in one wall with textured paintable wallpaper - see photos
I think Amy had the right idea, with the faux stone wall, or if you can afford it, the real thing. You also might try a half wall of flagstone on the wall, with the paint above it where the TV will be. I think the flagstone colors would be gorgeous there, and by only doing half the wall, your cost will be less.
In order to keep continuity in the space, it all needs to be the same color. I think brick or stone at the bottom painted the wall color. If you choose rock, make sure it’s not to large. I have shiplap on 2 1/2 walls of my livingroom and one small wall in the master bath. I really like both. They are floor to ceiling and painted same as rest of walls. It just adds a little texture to an otherwise boring space. Don’t put the TV too high on the wall unless you want a stiff neck. I’ve seen that mistake too many times. Good luck! Please post end product.
What material are you using for your fireplace/heater? I would carry that around to the space you are repairing. I agree with the other comments. Half wall is less costly and same color paint will tie the areas together. You definitely need to address the issue with your fur-baby first so your hard work won't be undone! Good luck!
I would stay away from shiplap, it looks nice until it gets scratched up. And the splinters between the pads could be a problem. I would go with a stacked stone look tile like this one. Doing it halfway up would look nice. Just put up a chair molding or trim on top to finish it off.
