It is really doing to depend on your climate and geographical region. Some tomatoes are really heat sensitive and won't do so well in the south and southwest. I'd check with your local master gardener's association as well as locally owned plant nursery's to see what is the best for your locale.
I've had good luck with "Big Boy" & "Early Girl", among others. And I've had great luck with any cherry tomato, I end up with too many to eat & give them to my neighbors.
It depends....upon what you want - paste tomatoes, purple tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, the list goes on & on....and your climate, growing season, soil.....good luck.
What kind of tomatoes do you eat? Or choose at market? Heirlooms? Tart ones? Cherry? Plum? Early boy and girl are hybrid and good producers. Who can pass by a ripe cherry? Striped zebra has a tart ting. Grow what you like to eat. Paruse a catalogue on line like Bakersfield Or totally tomatoes.
