that is a decision only you should make

  • Regardless of which you end up choosing, the area needs to be prepped properly first. If there is no irrigation system in place, now is the time to do so. Sod will give you instant gratification, but can get very expensive quickly, especially if you have a large area to cover. If budget is a concern, seed is the way to go. But you will need to keep kids and pets off of it for a period of time. So consider your lifestyle and family.

Yes, I agree with Naomie, and also consider your growing region. Right now I am in SW Michigan and it’s still too cold for true Spring to begin (snow on Easter 😟 is forecasted). Yet I believe Naomie can probably start mowing her lawn in California.

So, as she mentioned, there’s preparation either way. One is much more costly, but you have instant lawn. They both require water, water, water...💦

    • Less expensive than other areas of Los Angeles County. If you come back to CA, go some place nicer! Ventura County and all points north. Central Coast is awesome. No place in CA is cheap anymore, what people pay for cars will buy a Fixer Upper in another state. I should have bit the bullet a few years ago and jumped on some real estate in Arroyo Grande, now I doubt I can afford it and fix it up. It is hotter than blazes here in the summer - which lasts f o r e v e r. Are you ready for that?

Seed is slower and cheaper than sod but if you want instant lawn sod is the way to go.

sod is fabulous if you can afford it, make sure you water it appropriately

Sodd is immediate satisfaction, keep it watered! Seed and straw takes time but if you are having someone do it make sure you aske them what type of seed they are using. Was told that contractors tend to a fast growing ( contractor brand ) for quicker results but the next year same grass can look spotty if it comes up at all.

Seed is cheaper; sod makes your yard green faster. ☺️
