Here are some awesome ideas for jazzing up the risers, unless you are putting wall-to-wall carpet on them!
Are they bare wood? You can paint them, stain them, do a carpet or even paint runner up the middle of each stair. You can tile them or even use laminate flooring on them! Good luck!

Just make sure whatever you use that it has done traction; you don’t want stairs to be slippery!
