What To Do With Styrofoam Squares

First, I would scour magazines and websites for artwork that you like and use those as "models" to copy for yours. Then pick ones that have shapes like the styrofoam you have. Arrange them to your liking, paint them, glue them, whatever you like! (try the paint first, it may disintegrate the styrofoam). Art is meant to be a personal expression and FUN to do---- have fun with it and let your creativity run wild. BTW, if you want to decoupage anything on the squares, make your own mod podge. It is simple to do and SO much cheaper --- mix equal parts water and clear Elmer's Glue.

I would like to add you can also make 3D images in a picture frame or in a keepsake frame rather because it is deeper .Find a seen you like and using a copy in 3 different sizes glue it to the foam . Place each one on top of the other and make it pop out then place it in the frame and hang it on the wall. Good luck I would love to see what you do with it when you make a choice from all the comments you will get .

perhaps you can carve them to look like Legos and then spray paint and make a "sculpture"

Cut to the shape you want. Then cover each one with a mixture of 1/2 each, white glue and water. This will cover and fill in tiny holes, cut edges and absorbent sides. Then you should be able to paint the shapes with any paint without dissolving the styrofoam. Best wishes ☺️

Rgibbs320, that sounds so interesting! The glue and water is an inexpensive decoupage medium. I’ve seen blocks done with newspaper pages. I think that you can order certain pages like the day you were born. You might like that. I would like colored comic strips!

Just coat the styrofoam, let it rest about three minutes, then put on the first layer of paper. You might want to tear magazine photos and ads into smaller pieces and slightly overlap the pieces. Whatever pattern you use, you paint from 3-7 layers of thinned glue, letting each layer dry in between. You can end with a couple of layers of spray polyurethane, just for the shine. Cloth follows the very same plan.

Such a cool idea! Whatever you do, I suggest painting it with a clear matte poly when your done. It would make it easier to clean.
