I can only give you a couple suggestions b ut having moved over 20 time.....👵🏻 Here are a couple starts.go to liquor or grocery store and ask for boxes which had wine bottles shipped. They are the bestest boxes for good glass ware, and precious things. Remember they were made to ship wine bottles over many miles. Next the things you dont use but are precious for whatever reason. Pack them up. Then if you have books to keep...All SMALL boxes. So heavy otherwise. Strip all but your own bed. Large boxes will do . Take down all wall decor, pack pictures between flat pieces of card board and tie three or four like sizes with string stand on end. Never flat. that is just a start...everyday pack something you wont be using until the new ouse...occasionally sit down and have a cup of tea, put feet up on a box and say...i deserve a rest.🙂

Yes start in one room at a time. Have a marker and tape for labeling whats in each box/ tote. Pack all the most important things all together from the same room. Try to write on your tape everything that's in each box. This will make it extremely easy to find what you need quickly.

The one very important thing to remember is do not pay to move anything you no longer have a need for, is distressed and no longer fits...sort and clean out every room. Anything left to be picked up, store in the garage. Keep in mind that that old lamp with the bent shade may not be worth moving. Old, beaten down pillows are not worth moving! You can buy new ones for less than the cost of the box to move them and the space on a moving truck!

You can buy boxes of various sizes and weight capacity at the big box stores. Also get several of those hand held tape dispensers and use Heavy Duty tape.

Pack one room at a time, marking every box for what room it came from with a brief description of what is inside. Have a few different colored markers. Stack boxes along a wall in each room.

Do not move a lot of canned good and grocery items. Give them to your neighbors or a food bank...it costs more to move them than to repurchase.

Start with removing pictures and such from walls. Pack all of them into appropriate size boxes and stack against one wall you choose to have your packed items in. Go into your cupboards and remove all dishes, etc except for the bare minimum. EG. if you live alone and don't expect a lot of company you can pack all your dishes, flatware etc except for one or two settings of dishes, leave out one or two pots, frying pans etc. Just enough so you can cook what you need still. Do the same with any books, movies, magazines you want to keep. PURGE as you go. Thinking about deciding to get rid of things AFTER the move never works. You end up keeping it and moving it with you again and again. Ask yourself these questions. Do I use it? Do I love it? Do I need it? If it is seasonal ok, but if it is something that has just sat in a box or gathered dust forever you should probably just pass it on. Pack small appliances. In the bathroom, bring out everything! If you have lotions or half empty bottles that you can condense into one bottle...do it. We all know we have done it...open two of the same thing and then have half a bottle of each. Check expiry dates! If you are past it toss it. Clean any area rugs etc and pack all but the one at your door. As you are moving things tend to get messier so would you rather someone walk on your floor with shoes on, or have to wash, and rewash items stepped on all the time? Buy a LOT of garbage bags. Find out where to donate or sell items you no longer need. Clothing can be put into rubber totes and keep only the few outfits you will need out. A couple pair of jeans/pants. Week worth of undies, a dress or two? Pack the rest....right in the dresser drawers. Take them out of the dresser, and put a garbage bag or plastic wrap, and tape up. Everything you pack should go on that wall you first chose, and stacked neatly. LABEL! "to bedroom" "to kitchen" To bathroom etc....so that your movers just can look at the box and at least place it into the appropriate room. I have had a move before where they just took EVERYTHING and stacked it into one room. Trust me you do NOT want to wade through that nightmare! Set a goal each day for what room you are going to pack. Then do it! No procrastinating...moves somehow come to the end day way faster than it felt at the onset. Most of all, don't get stressed. If you have help, then tell them what you want packed, where and what labels. This helps them as well. And, have a good move.

Go to a liquor or Wine store, they have great sturdy small to medium boxes. This guarantees you won't fill boxes to heavy to lift. These are great for fragile items,glasses,frames because they are so sturdy-rember they were used to package several bottles of wine or liquor. You can get as many as you need, they are in the front of the store. When i moved i made severalbtrips to Wine and More and loaded my car. More boxes because they were smaller, but great for all my kitchen stuff and knick knacks.

The easiest way to pack your closet is with heavy duty lawn bags. Make a small hole in the bottom of the bag, then take several items still on the hangers, put the bag over the clothes feed the hanger hook thru the hole and then use a zip tie around the hangers tightly. Push any long items in the opening of the bag and tie it closed. When you get to your new place just cut zip tie untie and rehang.

My husband is retired US Navy and after many moves I learned one room at a time. When you finish a room, close the door. It will give you a sense that you can do it. Good luck.

Buy Polythene Stackable storage boxes and label them as you go. Bubble wrap to wrap to use for delicate items. Start by packing these up first! Empty your shelves and then cupboards etc. Clothes and Linen. etc.

When we put our house up for sale.. I started packing... we used clear sided "clamshell" topped crates... all the same size and shape.. This makes them easy to stack up and easy to see what is in each one. And if you can't get them unpacked right away they can be neatly stacked up in what ever room they go into. They even come with different color tops, so you can assign a different color to each type of room. Make a label on a sheet of printer paper BIG LETTERS and tape to the INSIDE of the crate before you pack it.. one on a side, one on and end...with the contents and/or the room it goes into (or came from).

Start with the things that you will not need while you are still living in the current house .... So pack them up first... winter (or summer) clothes, extra blankets, knick knacks, books. Also the things you are still using will be the first things you will need to function at the new location: coffee pot, skillet, big pot, sheets for all the beds, towels, plates, cups, bowls etc. these things will be the last on the moving truck or trailer and the first ones off, so hold them in a separate location on moving day so you know where they are. Pack a suitcase for each family member with all they will need for the first few days and put them in the same location... or in your car so you can find them.
