Looking for a safe grass killer

I have a wire fence that is close to the ground and a string trimmer doesn't get it all. I have dogs so it has to be safe for them

if there are no other plants involved you can use white vinegar to kill the grass

vinegar mixed with water, spray along bottom edge of fence line will kill most any vegetation depending on how much vinegar is used, safe for pets. do not like it either deterring them from going under fence too,
