I have an 8000 gallon koi pond that's about 80 feet long and 16 feet wide. My advice would absolutely be to do your research. Fish/water gardens are fun and relaxing but can be expensive to construct and maintain. So start with a budget and work from there. Be advised, Lori, that ponds attract critters like frogs, turtles, snakes, oppossums, raccoons and all sorts of birds, many of which will eat your koi. If you're squeamish about that, then make sure you also set up a safety system to keep predators away - like a decorative wall, alarm system and/or bird netting.

I'd check with a pet store, or with a nursery that sells garden statues, etc. You want to build a fish pond. Make sure they get some shade.
