Here is an article that might help - Get Rid Of Nutgrass
I was told you have to get the bottom 'nut' or root of the weed or you are just pulling off the top. Someone said vinegar and water in a sprayer would do it...not sure if this is the answer...but if you try it please post back if it worked. The same spray is suppose to be good for drying up all weeks ...supposedly they burn them out and they turn yellow and you just pull then out.
Too bad we haven't decided we like it because it's tough and will grow anywhere in all kinds of soil. There are sprays that are specifically designed for nut grass, but the first thing is to get your lawn healthy so it will crowd out the nut grass. Get a pre-emergent and follow the instructions for your zone. You can also use the pre-emergent in your garden. Then start a fertilization program that's right for your zone. You can get that information from your local agricultural extension. Good luck.
The vinegar will kill the grass you want to keep and also sterilize the soil and take out the good bacteria and some other nutrients.
