I have tried, and tried to decorate this! and it still looks ughh. It as 12 foot long 4 feet tall shelfy thing that is in our home. You can see as soon as you walk in our front door and it can be viewed on the other side from our family room.
because you can see it immediately from our front door - I'd like for the decorations to "make a statement"; please help! thxs!
How about stained glass. Pricey, but it would look nice.

use taller items to off set the length, different heights and shapes, color. Use odd numbers
I agree with Jensong345, you need to have some more height on the shelf. It could also need some more color, perhaps a pop of brighter colors in the flowers that you use, to me it looks bland to use all pastels on the shelf.
What is something that you love to collect this would be the perfect place to put one to show it off.
Unless you need the height for light you could hang a long piece of art or fabric or such from the top of this opening. You could also "divide" it into three sections, I don't mean with a physical divider but by having separate little vignettes in a group of three. Think of it as an open mantelpiece. Here are two examples of high and low items on a shelf. Where yours is much longer I would think of "dividing" the space visually with tall items about 1/3 of the way in from both sides. The divisions don't have to go all the way to the top, but maybe at least 2/3rds of the way. And the things in the center of these divisions don't all need to be the same low height. Have mixtures of height and mixtures of items. Also think of changing things out since this is such a centerpiece of your home. Use fresh seasonal things and glass, stone, china, wood, items. Avoid plastic flowers. Also you have to take into consideration that the opening is visible from two spaces, so alternate the way items are facing. For anyone who has this kind of challenge in decorating I would suggest that having a large number of decorative items to choose from is good plan. Pick up things wherever you see them. Garage sales, Goodwill, etc. It doesn't matter if you have a plan in mind. The items you collect will suggest plans. On my mantelpiece for Halloween; the raven was from a yard sale for $1. The bittersweet I picked, the pumpkins from the store and the urns were a gift.
Merrillmadhouse1 suggested stained glass. We did this years ago in a house that had a similar wall. Husband hung several antique leaded glass panels by chains in this space. It was lovely (and no clutter on the shelf to keep clean).
I would keep it simple. A beautiful statement glass piece which would allow light to come through would be stunning. You can find amazing glass bowls, vases, etc. in places like HomeGoods, etc.
Buy a stained glass piece that would fit into the space. Or for a cheaper version - get a piece of clear plastic that fits in there and make your own stained glass with paint.

Just a suggestion, maybe a door mirror laid length ways. Or something that would give the mirror effect?
I would knock that weird wall down and open up the space..what is it's use anyway except to divide rooms and be a catchall for dust collectors?
I would open it up too. Then you could put s small sofa table/ bench of some sort to add decor to.
I WOULD DECLUTTER IT. TOO MANY THINGS ON IT ONLY DRAWS ATTENTION TO IT. ONE OR TWO RELATED OBJECTS WOULD BE ENOUGH.
A silk flower arrangement with a candle on either side. Nothing else. or an arrangement using candles, and nothing else. Treat it as you would a dining tabletop. Change seasonally so you don't tire of it.

Since this is a highly visible feature, I would go simple and classic--- candles and candle sticks of various heights, widths and colors. Would look fabulous both lit and unlit.
I think your wall is missing the focal point that you needs, like wainscoting on the bottom and a dark top with just a long sprawling candle pc that can be changed for the seasons. Here’s a few photo ideas that you may like.📍
