If you're not allowed to paint, you're going to have to add color with you furniture, pictures, window coverings and other accents. There are temporary things that I've heard you can do, but I've never done them. Hopefully others will be able to help there.

Hi Meadow, You can add color on your walls by hanging fabric. It's pretty easy to do. Soak the fabric in water/liquid starch and place it on your wall. Scrape out any air bubbles just like you would do with wallpaper. Start in center and work your way out. That's easy, right? When you move, just peel it right off. Best of luck to you,

I have beige walls but also a turquoise sofa and love seat. Right now I am recovering a boring cream ottoman with a lighter turquoise and cream plaid fabric. My home is not boring. If I were you I would add shots of colour with wall paper in the kitchen. The new papers are wonderful and are easy to remove. The week before you leave just pull it off. Good luck.

You could also go with the new peel n stick removable wallpaper, I even saw one article where the gal put up white peel n stick paper, used clear top coat to seal the edges and seam, and then painted the wall which could later be removed.
Personally, I would do the liquid starch and fabric..... there are tons of cool sheet patterns out there that would make a great accent wall, and you could make matching drapes if you desire. I always used to buy the king set as it gave me lots of extra fabric to do pillows, drapes etc.

I love the starched fabric idea. I've taken clearanced bedsheets and just hung them up like curtains on the walls.

As others said- add color with curtains, your furniture coverings, pillows, artwork, mirrors. You could use contact paper as a back splash- since that's peel & stick. There are also peel & stick designs for your walls all over Amazon.

For contrast and excitement you can add unlimited color in the colors you love with pillows, painted furniture, accent pieces and area rugs. Be happy the area is light and not depressing dark colors you have to brighten up. For really inexpensive art you can cover cardboard boxes (pizza box size..or even pizza boxes if they're not too stained) with colorful fabric or giftwrap and hang on your walls for easily changeable art. Also decorate with fruits and vegetables in the kitchen. Place lemons, limes, oranges, etc. in large bowls or tall clear cylinders of glass. Lots of green plants will make the place homey as well. Do some of this quickly, so you can enjoy "your" home. Good luck and thank you for being a service family.

I agree with Janice that you are lucky to have 'basic neutrals' to start with, rather than uncoordinated ghastly colours in every room.
All surfaces in the picture are hard and lacking texture.
Fabric wall art, or fabric panels, will instantly add some zest and dimension to the space. Thrift stores can be an inexpensive source of large canvases to cover.
Area carpets will add warmth and softness, and will help to define each area according to function.

If painting one wall an accent color is out, then add large colorful accent rug for both rooms and a matching runner for the hall and add wall art, pillows vases in colors from the rug and be sure to add curtains in one of those colors📌
