Hi Delena. I don't have much luck keeping towels or rugs white. How I clean them is on a long cycle with bleach, detergent, and borax. If you have a washer that allows you to soak the rug then I would do that for a few hours and then run the cycle.

  • What is your fabric content? Stay away from bleach as it can "yellow" or "gray" depending on type of material, it also weakens fibers. Wash as needed with a bit of low suds detergent, vinegar and baking soda to keep it sparkling white. Do not over dry either, I use wool dryer balls and take out damp. If a sunny warm day, they get draped over a patio chair.

there are 2 colors that show everything..black and white. When you do get it clean, see if you can get a spray can of water repellant on it. The rug might not be a absorbent, but it shoul help shed stains...dirt. The spray on repellant eventually wear off in the wash.

As Naomi says, but if you have front loader, use only 1tb of detergent and extra rinses. My front loader has destroyed my whites

They are difficult to keep clean. My washer has a bright white cycle option. Not wearing shoes in the house might be an another option.

For anything white, get some TRI-ZYME from Amway. I always keep several boxes on hand, so I don't run out. I've been using it for 30 years. Nothing better to keep whites white.

I don't like using bleach. I use Oxyclean instead. If you have a tub or sink you can soak it in (I use a dishpan), dissolve the Oxy in hot water and then soak your rug. Rinse it, and then wash in hot water and more Oxy and detergent.

Bleach, Borax (20 mule team) and/ or bluing (add a few drops to a bucket of water - pour into the washer) . Dry out in the sun, so the sun will help bleach it as well.

Bluing will take out the yellow .
