My garbage disposal is plugged and it hums when I turn it on. I’ve tried turning the bolt on the bottom with the key that came with it, but it want budge. I used long tongs but can’t feel anything inside. Water drains very slowly out of that sink. My drain in the other sink is fine.
Can you help me?

How old is your garbage disposal? We've had several over the years and a hum usually means we need a new one. :( If it were me, I'd call a plumber to see if it can be fixed, needs to be replaced or if there is something caught just below the disposal.

Take a broom and put the handle into the garbage disposal and turn it clockwise- hard. When it turns, take handle out and turn on. If it still just whirls, turn off and do it again. It may take a couple of tries, but this works. Good luck.

There should be a reset button on the actual motor under your sink, feel around and press to reset it, then try it again with running water.

Pour boiling water in the disposal, that should do it. Also put some baking soda in the disposal, and add vinegar. The disposal will fizz, so be ready asap with something to cover over the disposal. Maybe a jar lid or a rubber jar lid opener. Rinse after 5 minutes.

Maybe it is jammed up- needs more water?

Sounds like a pebble or screw may be lodged in a tooth. Turn off power, stick your hand in there and feel around. Has happened to me several times.
