My backyard has always retained a lot of water since it is sloped . It is usually soggy and hard to mow. It also invites the presence of crawfish mounds, as many as fifty or more. This makes mowing even harder since it is harmful to suck up mud in mower. Is there an alternative to the grass which is not too expensive?

Try to form a channel (Like a tree with branches with Shingle filling.) This will look pleasant and do a job of sending the water to the lowest point. Maybe have a natural pond..........?

We got rocks from a farmer and placed them on our hillside with a few creeping junipers. It has been virtually carefree except to pull an elusive weed here and there and now trim the junipers back from the walk at the bottom of the hill.
