I always purchase sample sizes and put those up first to be sure I like it, if not I go back and choose again.

It really is a matter of personal taste and the style of your house. where I live, I have to abide by approved colors from my homeowner's association. If you don't have to worry about that, look at what your neighbors are doing and pick something that will be unique but coordinating with the neighborhood without being "that house with the awful color".
