We all have had one, and they make your living room an eye sore. I have an ugly couch and always thought there was no way to cover it up or make it look cozy. I'm sharing a few tips and tricks I've learned along the way to help you style an ugly couch.
Tip Pillows and throw blankets are your friend. Use various size pillows to add texture to your couch and throw blankets to make it feel cozy.
Tip A good rug is a must. I ordered an extra large rug that pulled the neutral colors I was using in this room. It takes your eye away from the couch and really adds some style in here.
Tip Don't make your couch your focal point. Use cool furniture pieces or decor on the walls to drive the eye up. I create open shelving and layered old windows for a 3D effect.
I also hung another shelf to the left. Shelves are so versatile because you can change the decor around when you're ready for a change and always make the space feel brand new. You can see how I built these open shelves here.
Tip Find a coffee table that works in your space. You should still have room to move around it. I made our coffee table from an old reclaimed barn wood planter and some shiplap. It also takes away from the couch and is a focal point in this room. It's also extremely functional and serves as blanket storage inside.
