Do you have a picture that you could share so that we might help better?

A level. Do not eye it or measure ( because of settling). Using a level you should always get the true square.

You have to use shims in the framing to square it up before you put on the outside molding.

Need picture or more info - both would be great.

Is there a door in the opening now? Was there ever a door in the opening? How off square is the opening? Do you need to expand opening to fit door or shim? Can you trim the door? Will squaring up the opening cause this door to become a custom size hence a special ordered very expensive door?
