Cannot find the right paint color for walls of kitchen and family room

I have an older home with an updated kitchen and connected small family room with blue and white tiles around the original fireplace. Lots of trim, a china cabinet, and hardwood floors. Furniture is dark blue, touches of dark red, and some beige. We need to remove the old damaged wallpaper and, since we cannot find a wallpaper we like, pick a paint color. The trim will be painted an off-white with some greige in it to match the rest of the first floor. We have gotten several samples of bluish gray paint, but they all look purplish in this space, though the paint store says there is no purple in the paint. We started looking at greener blues, like Benjamin Moore Palace Pearl, Blue Ice, and Gentle Gray, but they look too blue on the walls. Maybe I want something that does not exist, but I am hoping someone can help us find a paint color that does not scream purple or blue, just looks more neutral instead of standing out. Sorry for the long description!

Do you want to go current trend or something you want to live with. Get some small sample cans and test it on what you want to paint.

hi Susan. We’re not trendy — we want a color that is restful, goes with the fireplace tiles, and doesn’t stand out. We’ve bought and tried about a dozen samples so far! I am just not good at this...

Benjamen Moore sells a color “dictionary” that is well worth buying. The colors look different because of the lighting differences between the store and your home. Also, if you buy “warm white” light bulbs you may want to try ” daylight” instead.

Glidden color Sandy Feet, what a beautiful color and goes with everything.

Since you have too much purple and blue undertone in your neutrals, you might want to think about going to the other side of the color wheel and pick up some neutrals in warmer tones. You said there will be some greige in the trim; have you thought about a light greige/taupe for your walls? BM Revere Pewter and Rockport Gray are two warm grays that you might want to consider.

You can always change/paint the fireplace tiles. Because I can't see can't give any advice on the colors. There is always white and use accessories for color.

Your millwork is gorgeous! I would do the walls in a charcoal grey. It will bring everything together nicely without making it too dark.
