Can you mix acrylic paint with chalk paint to change the colour.

Well, i did....i went to Home Depot and they said that what they add to the chalk paint is actually a bit of acrylic colored paint...

Sounds good, I sometimes paint pictures on old furniture, sometimes just picture for around the house. Or I will be. I have experimented on 2 stools and a chair so far and waxed over a Chalk background with Acrylic and permanent marker pen drawings; it seemed to work' I don't know how long for after people have sat on them a few times. I've also bought a pantograph to copy pictures on wood and signage with my router, so, I will be using paint a lot to bring out the carving on signs etc. I have never carved before, except the odd words like 'Beware dogs' with a 'Dremel' tool. But this summer I am going to get out and give it all a go. That is why I came to this page to ask from you people who have already experimented as you know, paint is expensive to buy and I don't want to waste it too much. Thank you for your interest.

Thank you very much for that Zoe, the reason I asked is that I have an old brown kitchen chair (a wooden spelled one) and I was thinking of painting it light blue like the sky with a tree coming up from the legs with the branches on the seat some birds perched on them and then going up to the chair back with some birds in flight so that the tree looks like the top going into the sky with some birds in flight on the back rest. I have lots of colours in acrylic but just a few four colours in chalk paint. However I don't fancy using loads of acrylic tubes on the whole chair so I wondered if I could mix and match it with chalk paint. I did 2 round kitchen stools with white water based wood paint on 2 legs and round the edge of the circular seat of a bar/kitchen stool and the rest in egg shell blue chalk paint and then I painted a picture of a curled up cat on the seat with a mixture of chalk paint and permanent marker pen then I covered the seat over with clear varnish to seal the picture and paint on the seat; I sealed the legs with chalk wax. This was my first project; as I found some chalk paint tins in a store (Aldis, England} for £4.99p they usually sell for about £12 , so it got me into painting furniture and experimenting.

Hello there! If I tint chalk paint ( I have the Rust-Oleum light tint base) with acrylic paint will it stand the test o time? I mean it won't turn funky after drying or fade away with time or become patchy?
