Yes, but it is not varnish but polycrylic - and only use water based over paint, even chalk paint. You will not need to use wax.

The problem with water-based varnish is bubbles, not water rings. So when you take the lid off the varnish, don't shake the can, rather gently stir it before applying. If you do get a bubble, go over it with the brush.
This is a side-note, but if you use Unicorn SPiT, use only an oil-based finish. Water-based would cause US to run. ☺️
