Welcome to a container gardening joys post. It is no secret that I love to garden and I love to garden everywhere and that includes in pots. Today I am sharing some thrifty ideas on how to create colorful, economical, useful containers for yourself or for gift giving.
I love terracotta pots because they are so versatile and they age marvelously. The patina on them just increases with each year and they begin to tell their own story. If you don't like them plain just add some paint! Shop your local gardening center for unique finds.
There are many plants that do very, very well containers. In these containers you will find the faithful geranium, petunia, bell pepper, and rosemary. I enjoy mixing vegetables and flowers together, many of them make great companion plants and add interest to the individual pots.
Mexican tarragon has a hearty flavored and is a gorgeous herb and the tiny yellow blossoms brighten up the container too.
Normally I plant my tomatoes in the garden plot but this year I am giving them a whirl on the patio. As you can see that are thriving. The cherry tomato is already forming tomatoes.
All of the plants that I am sharing with you today will do well in all zones. In southern climates the petunias and geraniums will need more shade and water as the intensity of the sun increases. This is just another reason why I like container gardening. The pots can be moved around.
