Vinegar! White vinegar poured onto weeds does a great job

Vinegar, unfortunately, only kills the leaf, not the root system. It looks effective, but it isn't. Neither is rubbing alcohol or salt. I've tried all of those, and they don't work. Not alone, and not combined. THe only organic weed killer is your hands

@Stephanie Volkert Agree! But we have to use it every so often on the area between the asphalt and concrete at the curb because it is impossible to pull weeds out of those cracks! HA!

My mom's place has an area in the front covered in river rock. We use water softener salt on that area maybe two or three times per year to stop weeds from growing through the rock. But you don't want to use salt if you want other plants to grow in the area.

I have had awesome results with this recipe: 1 gallon white vinegar 2 cups epsom salt 1/4 cup dawn Stir together gently until salt is completely melted. Pour into pump sprayer. Spray on weeds on sunny day. Works in one day. Be careful, it will kill everything. When spot spraying around other plants, I use a regular spray bottle. I live on 1 organic acre, haven't bought roundup in 3+ years. Safe for the environment, pets and children.

PS: the weeds I sprayed are those "in" the gravel pathway, at the end of the sprayer hose tip. The green weeds you see are outside of the pathway. Same weed that was growing in the pathway!

We use White Vinegar. Works great, and my son can use it without any worries from us!
