Unless you are using bamboo for a food source or woodworking, plant only clumping bamboo. Otherwise, once started it takes over. You can order bamboo on line or through you local nursery. Good luck.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!
I would think twice before buying bamboo. It is an invasive plant and VERY hard to control and or get rid of. If it goes on neighbors property YOU are responsible. Some States and towns will not let you grow it.
I would be one of the people who would hesitate to plant bamboo, it is very invasive and will spread through the root system to areas where you may not want it to go to, such as your neighbors. If you still want bamboo, plant it in pots as a means of control. I think there is a clumping version of it, but I would plant that in pots too. Good luck!
If you truly need to plant bamboo get a clumping NOT running bamboo. To contain it, you need to dig a trench at least a foot deep, then put metal edging, on edge, around the plant. That is the only way to contain the roots. There are hundreds of kinds of bamboo....There has to be another option that would work and look as well.
I love bamboo, but the closest I'd come to having any would be "Heavenly Bamboo" (common name) Nandina Domestica. It's colorful, lacy looking shrub with red berries in the fall, little white flowers in the summer and the leaves that change color as well as staying all year. Not a bamboo at all.
