Start by soaking them outside in a tub of water to loosen the mud. Rinse and repeat if needed getting them as clean as possible. If you have a garden hose you could rinse the interior by flushing out the dirt. Then clean off the outside.

Hello. I would try to soak them in hot water with dish soap. If they still seam dirty try putting coke in them and letting them sit.

After soapy water cleaning, I often use denture cleaning tablets for build up and residue in vases. They might help your bottle situation too.

First soak them to loosen the mud. Rinse them clean and wash them. If you're going to use them for food items, you can sterilize them in boiling water for 10 minutes. Or, you can just run them through your dishwasher on the highest hot water settings.

I've soaked them and removed mud, used a hose end sprayer that helped, run them through d/w 3x, and used pieces of a magic eraser to remove residue, but shadows remain. They're to be used as part of rehearsal dinner center pieces so I'd love them perfect. I'll try denture cleaner, baking soda or Coke next. Thanks for all the suggestions. They were buried under a 1920's bungalow so they were really filthy!
