I received a pot of beautiful tulips as a gift. How and when do I plant them. I'd like to enjoy them year after year.

  • You'll need to wait until Fall. For now, put them in a cool, dark place, like the basement.

you can plant them now providing your area ia out of the danger of frost.Dig the hole twice the size width and depth of the original pot, place the entire plant in the ground and cover with the soil.Leave the foliage on as the bulbs feed from that.

Once the flowers have died back you can plant them in your garden but the first year they will appear to be dying. Don't fret about that! They will flower again next spring and then die back. Normally you plant tulip bulbs in the fall.

You can plant them in the ground now. Find a sunny spot , plant them about 6 inches deep, make sure the pointed side is up. They won't come up again until next season.
