Evelyn the mold is caused by lack of air floor and venting. If you have a vent fan definitely use it whenever someone showers etc. To get rid of the current mold you can scrub it with bleach and they also make specific mold inhibiting paints that you could paint over the area.

Been there done that..I’ve tried several mold killing agents in this house. The one that worked the best? A diy one. Vinager and water in equal portions, and in a spray bottle. If it was a larger area I made sure it stayed damp with the solution for about 30 min. The vinager water kills the spores that spread the mold...and it doesn’t harm my pets. After the mold is gone I used a stain blocking primer paint on the ceiling.

They make mold inhibiting paint. Read and follow the directions. The problem is being caused by lack of ventilation. Do you have a vent fan? If not, I'd look into installing one, and be sure it's used with every shower. Also, leaving the bathroom door open when not in use, helps.

  • Good advice above, but I'd like to add that you should have an exhaust fan installed to prevent further problems.
