Hi Dawn. Try Diatomaceous earth. It is a organic material made from crushed shell and coral. When insects with a skeleton come in contact it makes little cuts on them causing them to dehydrate and then die. I use this for ticks and ants.

I used specteside from Lowes , it's granular so just water your gras real good, put some on the ant hills and sprinkle around base of house and rest of grass. Lite sprinkle with water. Just enough to activate it. Might need to do it again so buy big bag.

    Good luck

I got rid of our pests by mixing honey with 20 Mule Team Borax. The food-gatherers take it back to the nest where the whole tribe has a feeding fest and dies happily!

I have tried all the before mentioned ideas, none worked then i heard to use club soda. just pour on the hill it seeps down and suffocates even the queen, as well as the ones on top or around the hill. in two days not a trace of ants. you have to kill the queen or ants will just move. This even works on fire ants !

I had carpenter ants in a former home and with 2 trips from the pest control company, they were still there! I came across Mother Earth News Catalog just in time!

I followed their recommendation and mixed 20 Mule Team Borax (boric acid) with the same amount of table sugar. MAGIC! Got them all to never return again.

    This works in several ways:

The ants are attracted to the sugar.

The worker ants discover the sugar and take it back to the nest, leaving pheremone markers along the way to lead all the others to the bounty of sugar.

The boric acid eats through the ants' exoskeleton to kill them.

The sugar is digested and fed to the nursery where the boric acid kills all the offspring.

Any workers not kills by exoskeleton, are killed by ingesting boric acid.

The KEY is destroying the nursery as well as the adults - with no babies, the ant hill will be destroyed.

Any other method won't be effective long term as ant hills can cover many yards across and deep.

Try simple corn meal. Sprinkle on/near ant hill, little buggers will eat, take back to colony and die. They can't digest the corn meal! Works like a charm and safe for pets and kids!
