What is the best way to mount an IKEA cabinet to the wall?

The back on the cabinet is so thin, I’m concerned that inserting screws through the back into the studs might rip the back out.

I would check with IKEA on what is recommended. The back should hold up but I don't know how much weight you intend on putting in the cabinet.
Visit a hardware store and search for fender washers. A great way to spread out a load, and i would still check with IKEA. Maybe you could make a new back for the cabinet first, something sturdier. IKEA is known for easy not sturdy or rugged.
