Cut a piece of plywood to size, cover with foam, and staple on fabric Attach to the wall the way you would a Very heavy painting.

Or yard sale for a queen headboard to paint or upholster. You can always cut off any “curly” design you don’t like before redoing.

Easy, check out Craigslist or thrift stores. Sidewalk sales and estate sales as well. If you want to make one is it just for looks and you don't plan on leaning on it then why not check out this site someone hung two curtain rods one on ceiling and one on wall close to ceiling and draped fabric or could have been a curtain, regardless it gave a very pretty royal effect. You could also try a door hung on its side. That if you want you can distress unless you find one ready to go or you can paint however you want. You can even add foam backing and fabric so that you can lean on it you can also just add it where the door panels are only for a different look. This site has a lot of these take a look.

An old door also makes a nice headboard, you can pick them up real cheap at Habitat for Humanity Restore or even the dump sometimes.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rD6Fcbvupk you could even have Home Depot cut your wood if you create a plan with measurements before shopping.
