How to paint chair cushions?

I plan on painting chair cushions with paint. Is there a way to set the paint rather than waxing the painted cushion? I hear the waxed material described as having the properties of leather and I am not sure I want that look. How else could I set the color?

Thanks for your help.

Are you doing decorative painting with fabric paint or acrylic paint? you set it with heat.... use an iron on the hottest setting (no steam) with a piece of cloth over top, or turn it upside down on your ironing board.

If you are trying to do the whole thing a solid color, I would use Rit Dye and their fixative to get a good result, there site has tons of ideas.... shibori is hot right now.... https://www.ritdye.com/techniques/shibori/ or gray https://www.ritdye.com/2017/11/08/introducing-rit-dyes-new-color-charcoal-grey/

Putting paint on fabric makes the fabric stiff. If you use a water based paint, it may run if the chair ever needs to be cleaned. That's why a finish is recommended. Use a textile paint (sold on line) and set it with an iron. Works so much better. Good luck.

I will be painting the fabric on the cushion to avoid recovering them. Can I still use an iron? How about a hair dryer? Thanks for the tip about cleaning them; hadn't thought of that.
