  • What room? Kids, pets? Anyone with disabilities? Budget? Style?

My favorite, hands down, is hardwood. I also like tile for certain areas as well as sheet vinyl (which most people consider "cheap"), but it does have its place.

One I would never use again is laminate - just ripped it out of my kitchen. Hands down the worst home purchase - ever.

  • It depends on the room. For a kitchen, you want flooring that is cleaned easily like tile, vinyl, laminate, or wood. A living room or bedroom may call for carpet, wood, or laminate.

Thanks for your ideas. I have under floor heating and thought I might be brave and try some calico / burlap in one of the rooms. No ideas if it’s possible or what it will look like. Just tired of always playing it safe.

I like hardwood for living room, dining room, bedrooms and hallways; tile or vinyl for kitchen, bathroom and entries; and area rugs if you want some extra warmth somewhere. We have taken all the carpet out of our house except for the family room, which is just a concrete pad. We have allergies and keeping one carpeted room is more than enough.

Thanks for answearing. We are just finishing a stable conversion. It’s currently concrete on the ground floor. What did you do to your concrete? I’m happy to experiment because I figure I could always cover it up if it doesn’t work. I’m sure I don’t want carpet anywhere.
