I cut the middle out of the diaper and place it in the planters, then add the potting soil, plant and water very well. It really helps cut down on watering.

The diaper trick sounds very effective. Rip the diaper open and put the "gel" insides in the bottom of your hanging pots. It's purpose is to retain water longer than the usual potting soil. Water your plants as usual. With the diaper gel, you shouldn't have to water as often. Be sure to read the diaper package before buying them. You want the diapers with the gel built in. Best of luck to you.

Put a disposable diaper plastic side down in the bottom of the pot before filling with soil and adding your plant. When you water the plant the diaper will absorb the water and keep the soil moist.

I use the soil most product. They help all my potted planters and hanging plants get through the hot dry summers. Perhaps its an alternative you may wish to consider.
