Sprinkle the area with epsom salts and then water. Do this a few times and you will be amazed how it will fill in and get green.

Often this is a sign you have grub worms. They eat the roots of your grass. They also attract moles, which eat the grubs. You have to spray whatever chemicals will kill the grubs. For real. Because we didn’t want to use chemicals we now have an unstoppable infestation of moles- a yard FULL of tunnels. The grubs are fat white curled things. Just stick a shovel in the ground and turn over a few spots. If that’s the problem you’ll find them very quickly

It looks like you have St. Augustine grass. Grubs LOVE to suck on their roots. Or else you have chinch bugs. Treat for those and then give your lawn a little TLC and the grass will happily fill in. Remember that when you mow, DON'T leave the mulch on the lawn! Blow it off or rake it. The thatch that is left will strangle the grass by creating an almost impermeable layer at the soil level. Any one of these 3 things is a death sentence for a nice lawn.

If you do have St. Augustine, remember that it should be left 3 1/2-4" high when you mow. Do not scalp St Augustine grass close to the ground. That causes weeds to get in the grass.

after years in the South I have to tell all of you are not aware of the difference down South.First the grass is probably Augustine it is put in with plugs not seeds. Secondly, it is probably the result of brown spot, too much water. You have to use fungicide on it. did go but some plugs, dig out the dead parts, and come late summer watch out for round dying circles
