Painting an upholstered chair

I have this chair, upholstered in Dralon velvet, which I want to try painting.
I have two questions: Can I use any paint, or should I use chalk paint? and, secondly, the velvet has a raised, embossed pattern to it. How would I emphasise this after painting? I don't want to lose the 3D feel of the chair.
Use textile paints. They will give you the effect you desire and maintain the feel of the velvet. They're sold on line. Good luck.
