    Donate them to a library. Personally, I have a "thing" about destroying a book -- no matter how bad the read was.

    Freecycle, or Friends of the Library Book Sales, or Better World Books drop-box (in supermarket parking lots), If clean kids' books, a shelter.

    Donate to a library, give to elementary art teachers, send to the landfill,throw them in s tub of water to make paper pulp to use for paper mache projects or handmade paper.

    Our local library has a used book store in their basement where they sell their old books and donated books to help finance the various programs they put on for the public.
