you can paint them and change out the hardware
You can have them professionally painted with automobile paint and coated to a high shine. Install new hardware and under cabinet lighting and you have a really beautiful kitchen. If you don't want to have them done professionally, use oil paint and make the investment is really nice hardware. Install the lights yourself (easy to do) and there you go!
Paint them a bold different color and add new pulls. It will give it a fresh look. Look at the one below.
