Have you thought of hanging a door on a rail, like a barn door style? For the runners and some free pallet wood, you could even make the door fairly cheap. There are many tutorials in Hometalk on how to do your own barn doors in the house. The rustic look is always in vogue.

looks like you have enough space, i would mount a sliding door on barn door hardware. there are hundreds of styles to choose from

It looks like you have the room to install a barn door which can be slid to one side when not in use. Purchase the track, the door holding brackets for the top and 1/2" plywood or a ready made door. You will need a roller bracket for the bottom corner so the door does not slide out from the wall but stays close. You will need bolts for the brackets and two small wood blocks to fit into the ends of the track so the door does not slide off. If the brackets are too wide for the width of the door just add a small piece at the top to make up the difference. I would either stain or paint the plywood before installing as you can also do with a ready made door.

We installed a bi-fold door. We didn't want anything along the floor to create a hump that a wheelchair would have to try to get over so we put a track at the top and then there is a single hinge point at the bottom of the door against one wall opening. Works great, privacy and keeps the heat in during the winter!

We built double sliding barn-type doors for ours. They are much better than one solid heavy door.

Saloon doors are another option. They do not provide as much sound-barrier privacy as solid sliding doors, but they might be a temporary solution until you can get a full door framed and installed.
