Usually building codes specify 16" apart, center to center. You might check with your local building department to insure you are complying with city code. That sounds great that you are going to have just one level of flooring. Guess your ceiling height there is not an issue?

Thanks! That was what I was thinking. I'm in an unincorporated area in TX so will check with the county. Ceilings are all same height so that is not going to be a problem. Figured I should get floor raised before I wind up with a broken leg! lol

      I appreciate your help! Cheryl

Is your ceiling higher than 8 feet in that sunken living room? Floor joists should be 16 inches apart on center.

16" on center is correct. I've raised many floors in homes with sunken floors built in the 50's and 60's. A fad of the time. Also have raised porch floors level with the rest of homes converted to living quarters. Mainly bedrooms. Also added fiberglass insulation for extra measure.
