The metal pole in the washing machine is rusting. What to do?

In the middle of my top loading washing machine is a plastic revolving "swisher". I removed it to get the lint out and found that the metal pole it is seated on has started to rust. This is not good. The rust will eventually get on my clean clothes. What ideas does anyone have?

Either use some steel wool to manually remove it, or get some Rustoleum Rust Dissolver.

Once it's cleaned up, to try and prevent it rusting again, you should remove the 'swisher' and leave it off between wash day's. The moisture inside the swisher cannot dry when it assembled and that will promote rust.

If you have a warranty/guarantee with the manufacturer call them. If I knew the brand, I could give you the number to call their consumer line. What state do you live in ?

I would call the manufacturer or go to some repair person locally, my lid on my washing machine is starting to get bumpy but no rust has come thru yet AND I ALWAYS LEAVE THE 'LID' UP.....GO FIGURE.....
