How do you get Brussel sprout plants to produce larger Brussel sprouts

That are larger than a thumbnail? My son has planted the plants but the sprouts have only got about the size of a thumb nail maybe slightly larger and majority are smaller!

Brussel Sprouts take a while. Slow growers. For me a winter crop, plant in fall for spring harvest. See if this helps!

Brussels Sprouts are heavy feeders and need well fertilized soil; they also take lots of water to make them produce properly. Also, check what was planted in the area before the Brussels Sprouts were planted there. Buy a book about companion planting to learn what plants will stunt the growth of them. The best book I have is "Tomatoes Love Carrots"; I've had mine for over 30 yrs and an updated issue is available today.
It may be the variety you are choosing. Or a fertilizer problem.
