The bottom sticks in the ground, then the post, the plastic cracks and they fall over.

First you can glue the tops on so they dont fall off. What i have done is get the skinny metal stakes for flowers push them down into the earth than take spike part off of light than put the tube part over the stake and they won't fall over.Just dont push down from the light part because the stake will push up on the mechanism of the solar light and break it.Hope that helps.

I twisted bread twist ties and a pair of pliers. Place the fixture in the pole before tightening.

Sounds like you're trying to push them into too hard dirt or there's rock under there. Maybe use a trowel and water to loosen the dirt, then put in.

Turn a terra cotta flower pot upside down and place the post through the hole in the bottom. You can decorate pots easily with glass beads (from $ store) and outdoor adhesive.
