A sturdy copper pipe garden arch

by Elsbeth
As our flimsy cheap garden arch did not survive the winter storms, I would like to make a better one myself. If you buy them, they are quite expensive, and I would really like one made of copper pipe, used for water or gas systems. Is that possible, and how should I proceed?

Not to be discouraging, but copper is neither cheap nor flexible without skill. I would experiment with a smaller project first.

Or consider the uprights being mostly straight piping, but using thinner copper wire woven, as you would vines, for the overhead and between the pairs of pipes on each side.

Just for fun, go to Pinterest and search for “arbors and trellis”.

    Good luck with your project.

Just a random idea but......plumbing plastic pipes are cheaper. Bend to shape and tie to keep formation.then you can pour a cement solution inside the pipes.to add extra strength add some s shape or u shape clips (used for holding fencing to walls) this will give a stronger cement. Let dry slowly for at least 3 or more days. And its a good idea to cool pipe with water outside it if its a very warm day. When you put into position do not cut pipe away. Just paint the whole thing.

I wonder if copper would be poisonous to the plants on and around your arch idea? It might be worth getting some copper colored material to build your arch.

I am doing this because of the same reason but I am using regular pipe with.Out the arch! I used pipe to stake up grapes! Those pipes never moved ! They are just pushed in the ground! Ohio has a rough winter! Once I stop my project I will post! There are elbows you can use & I am sure homedepot can bind the pipe for you
