The side of the house where water accumulates is a cement slab.

Mix cement a little thinner. Pour over area. It will naturally go to the "low spots. I did this on my basement floor and it worked well.

Getting any water away from the house is a good thing. The drain you show is a lot of work but will work well and still looks good. If you go this route, be sure to put landscape fabric in the bottom before adding the rock.

Best way to get rid of this is a "French Drain" . You will need to break off cement from where it touches house to a width that will accommodate the drain. French drains are basically a length of pvc with holes in it. It collects the water flow in the top holes and allows it to drain away from your homes foundation. Libraries have great dyi books you can borrow to help with your specific plans.
