Does anyone have experience with having a retractable awning installed. Did yo get manual or electric? Any problems with it?

  • we helped my nephew install one that was manual. The only issue is high winds. they live on the side of a mountain and they just are cautious about having the awning extended in strong winds to avoid tearing, otherwise it has been great for cutting the sun off of their patio.

We've got an electric (also with a crank) over our deck from SunSetter. Works great but check of the direction of the rising/setting sun, it shines fully under our awning as the sun goes down as it faces west. Be careful of high winds. They do make some very expensive ones that go up if the wind gets too high. We haven't found a good way to clean ours yet as it extends to the sides of the deck, about 3 ft off the ground.

I don't have one but did look into it. We were going to get electric then decided to just put on a permanent roof on instead. So I say go electric.

I used to have an RV. If it is windy the awning will roll up if not tied. Be careful, it could tear.

we’ve had an electric one for over 15 years. LOVE it! Use it all the time. Ours has a sensor that automatically closes it if the wind picks up. I HIGHLY recommend that feature

My friends opted for the crank out since running the electrical to that part of the exterior would have been too $$. They esp appreciated it when there was a storm and a friend with electrical awning couldn't close it because the power had gone out. Their awning was damaged and super dirty.
