    HI Lois,
Click the link below for several ideas with directions on how to do them. There are also ideas for extreme weather and how to create a flap to help keep the cats warm. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best.

Oh , that is so sweet of you! My heart goes out to them, but we are not allowed in our community to do things for them (they do not want any cats around outside pets or otherwise). If they are on your porch a stray dog or two may be able to get up there too, unless you have a gate you close. The safest place for them and for them to feel safe is to give them some height when they sleep. I was thinking a carpeted post or something similar for them to climb to get to a covered box at the top. I was picturing like the climbing posts people often have in their homes that are inexpensive to buy or make. You might want several little places up off the floor where a dog could not reach them (so they would feel safe) like you see made out of styrofoam boxes and filled with soft blanket. The styrofoam could be covered with jute rope or something to give it some character and not look bad on your porch. If it were me, I'd put one of those cat trees made for cats in one corner (if the porch has a cover over it). Just some of my thoughts. Thank you again for being so nice and compassionate for the ferral cats, Lois. You are a good neighbor!!

Here the community builds feral cat houses out of those rubber or plastic storage tubs lined with that kind of insulation they use on those quilted silver windshield, a 7" hole either taped around edges with duct tape, or I used a very large yogurt container as an entrance (now some cats will only go in if it has an escape hatch in the back too, and line with straw for bedding (not hay or fabric). I duct taped the top on. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+make+a+feral+cat+shelter I built one for the feral kitten who was starving and showed up in my yard trying to catch birds in my bird baths...... noooooo. So I started feeding her, and when the rainy season came I built her a house. She's become pretty tame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMbW8XfIqSg

Some where recently I saw where you can take a plastic tote & make a house outdoors where ferret cans can live & stay dry but can’t find it! Thanks
