Lath is the narrow strips of wood nailed up between wall studs for the purpose of plastering. Not seen much anymore due to the invention of drywall or sheetrock.
Not a stupid question at all. House walls used to be made from lath and plaster. LATH is thin strips of wood or metal used in making a supporting structure for plaster, shingles, tiles, etc.
its like a 1to 2 inch wide thin piece of wood ,a paint stick ,but a lot longer
It's thin strips of wood used as a base to attach plaster to.
It's not stupid at all. The only question that is stupid is the one not asked. 'Lath' is how walls were made in older houses. underneath the plaster was a layer of wood strips about an inch & a half wide and about half an inch thick. There was about half an inch gap between the strips. These wood strips held the plaster on the wall. Then one day someone got smart and invented Sheet rock. With sheet rock, we don't need the lath strips to hold the plaster on the wall.
