Help with Covering Socket in Light Fixture

Kathryn
by Kathryn
I am looking for advice on how I can cover the sockets in this old light fixture I picked up. I took the shades off and how you see the exposed socket too much for my liking. The depth is about 2 inches and does not seem that there is a 2 inch socket cover out there. My goal is to replace the lights with edison bulbs. Any advice on how I can cover these up would be awesome :)

You can get some pvc pipe probably at any hardware store. Just take bulb with you to make sure you get it wide enough. You can also paint the pvc with a plastic spray paint.

Hello!!! I would wrap it with adhesive lace if you’re trying to stay with a chic look. The bulbs 💡 shouldn’t give off enough heat to worry about a fire 🔥 hazard. Craft stores have so many new adhesive decorative strips nowadays. You can also buy some metal water heater strapping, it’s als about 2”. That would look real good.

I like the PVC idea, you could also use aluminum. A small aluminum juice can cut into rings and spray painted would work. Not sure I would use greenery due to heat build up.

The more I look at your picture, the more I think about either re-vamping or replacing the piece under the socket. It has a convex shape. If you can remove one, take it to the hardware store and see what alternate solutions you can find.

I go with the PVC pipe. Easy to cut. Can be glued down. Can be painted. Would give a finished look.

Would a toilet paper tube fit? Or maybe one from Saran?

As long as it doesn't touch the bulb, it could be painted or covered with fabric, foil, wrapping paper, anything really.

A light store sells cones that fits the "candle" on a chandelier . They are made for this, and will not be a hazard.
