Popcorn ceilings are not ideal for most homeowners. But removing them can be messy and expensive. We recently tackled a popcorn ceiling in a kid's room makeover, and ended up using ceiling planks to cover them on up. It only took us a few days to complete and the result is 100x better than those ugly popcorn ceilings!

Here's the space before we got our hands on it. It's pretty dark and dingy, and the popcorn ceiling isn't the best look.

We decided to go with white ceiling planks to cover it on up.
The product we ordered came with metal tracks that you drill directly into the joists of the ceiling to keep them secure. These are placed every 2 feet or so.
The first row of planks is screwed into each track and we used wood shims to leave a little bit of space on the edge of the wall. Once you get the first row up, it's easy to snap the rest of the ceiling into place using clips.
Once you get to this step, it's pretty easy to continue to clip each ceiling plank into place. Kinda like flooring...but on your ceiling!
With all of the ceiling planks up, we added trim on all of the edges for a finished look.
Here's the space with the fresh ceilings! Looks pretty awesome, right?! Crazy how a bright white ceiling, fresh paint, and a few new pieces of furniture can transform a room.

I heard spiders make nests throughout the popcorn or textured ceilings. Did you build over or remove popcorn or textured ceiling?

    Is this true.

What a lovely improvement! What are the planks made of and could you tell me where you got the system? I’ve never seen this product before. Thanks 😸

Well it helped that you painted the walls white ladies, but I really do love the plank ceiling! Great job you two!

Yes, nice improvement. But the fresh paint and flooring transformed the room.
