I am surrounded by clutter and I can't dig out…where do I begin??!! It is in every room… I have a few months coming up I would like to sift through throw away and build useful shelves some decorative some simple storage. Also, help with wood plank floors on a cement floor as my family room carpet is horrible and I have seen many ideas for plank floors but not how to apply over a cement floor if I ripped up my carpet

I don’t know about the flooring but as far as the clutter goes you need three baskets for each room. Label them as such; keeping, charity, and maybe. Only when you’re completely finish with the room you’re working on look how beautiful it is and then go back to your maybe basket. More often than not you’ll like the way your room looks more than what’s in the maybe basket

When going through your cluttered rooms, make two piles. One pile, if you use it or need it, put it in that pile. The other pile is for items you have not looked at or used in one year or more. When you make that pile, make mini piles of things you can donate, such as clothing, books, etc. The other mini pile is for trashing. Of things you keep, organize them into piles of where they are used most, such as craft items, books or magazines, sporting equipment, dishes, clothing, etc. At least get them into their correct rooms, to be gone through more thoroughly when you tackle those rooms. I know, I had the same problem. After accumulating clutter for over 30 years, I had a LOT to go through, and still have 2 rooms to go, but at least I can walk through my house now! I wasn't able to before!

Just start from the side of your chair and work out to the walls. 3 Piles.

keep - Thow & don't Know. When you get to the walls - Get rid of Thow pile and make two piles from Don't Know Pile ( Keep - Donate) Give away Donate Pile.......There you have it. Next room......................

-it takes a life style change as well -- to keep the 'clutterbug' at bay -- if you don't use it everyday! put it away; Everything has a place and everything IN it's place; and be ruthless... keep only those items that have DEEP SENTIMENTAL VALUE - not just 'I LOVE it' , or ' I can use this next week, month, year' if you haven't used it in the past 6 months! and there are professional organizers that can give you ideas/help if you need some moral support!

Get 3 boxes / bags to purge clutter. Use one to throw, one to give/sell, and one to put away. If you cannot put it away for lack of room, reconsider to throw or give/sell. Then have a large yard sale, or several of them. Some charities will come pick up what you cannot sell. Just make arrangements ahead of time for them to come take whatever does not sell.

Check out fly lady.com has helped me and my packrat daughter to declutter. You can't organize clutter it has to go. It's hard to let things that you paid good money for but bite the bullet and bless others with what you don't need

we felt this way after a land purchase with areas that needed clearing. We couldn't walk through so we started at the edge and cleared a path using a chain saw and machete. I don't recommend those tools but I do recommend clearing a path, begin with removing things. Once you have a path then go to the next room and clean it out. Get that first layer gone, move on to one room at a time. Once completed then it's time to go back and get serious and really get rid of what you don't want or use anymore.

Clutter: does an item bring you JOY?? If not, toss. (You won't look back... and donating those items may bring someone else joy --- and give $$ to a charitable organization. ...that's a win-win.)

MAKE time for this! Work as fast as you can for just 10 minutes a day... and don't look back! ...in a couple of weeks... you'll have made a lot of progress!

You can always rip up the carpeting and stain the concrete. Make it simple. ...sounds like you have a lot to do -- don't complicate your life with plank floors right now... just work on the clutter.

to get rid of extra items start yourself several piles and just walk in room and start from the first spot you see. Name piles trash, keep and donate. The items that are going away is best put in black contractor bags so you will not be tempted by looking at it over and over to keep. When full separate into different sections for room not to get bags confused. Don’t wait until you have gone through entire room to it in trash or donate. Do little at a time. Less painful.

Sigh, I feel your pain and totally sympathize. I have a version of your problem. I do the decluttering and bag up the stuff to be picked up by a charity on an arranged day. Off I go to work, hubby gets up and goes through the stuff and hauls chosen items back in and "puts" them away where only he knows, these get discovered sometime later. You never know when you'll need 4 walking canes!
