Dixie Belle paint is Florida based, as are we, and they recently reached out to us to try their products. Since I was not familiar with their inventory, I (Vicki) took a bit of time to check out what they had as well as watch a few videos.

In my exploring, I found a product called Slick Stick. It is designed for slick surfaces like plastic laminate, glass, etc.

I've kept some furniture from when Steph was in kindergarten as I always hoped I could refinish it. The problem with this furniture is it has a laminate top and some kind of plastic trim. I never knew what would work to keep the paint sticking to this surface. When I discovered the Slick Stick I knew I'd found the perfect product to use.

Bonus, there would be NO sanding needed on this project!
Watch the video to see how we took this piece of furniture out of the seventies into the 21st century!
This little dresser had seen better days. It was in need of a makeover!
Every makeover starts with a good cleaning. I used Krud Kutter with a magic eraser to scrub it really well. I even took a Scotch Brite pad to the area under the hardware. I really though I was going to need to sand these areas, but they came clean with the Krud Kutter and the scrubbing pad.
These are the products I used. The piece of vinyl in the foreground of the picture is my inspiration. It has a bit of silvery white in it which I wanted to pick up so I chose the Dixie Belle metallic silver. The Slick Stick will go on the top and plastic rim, the base coat on all the other parts, top coat will be next followed by a single coat of the clear coat.
Two coats of Slick Stick are painted on the top and edge. Drying time is 1 to 3 hours and then overnight for the second coat. With all of Dixie Belle paints, it's important to start with a damp brush.
I put three coats of the base coat on the sides and drawers. Be sure to allow plenty of drying time between coats.
The last step is to apply the top coat. All the surfaces got two coats followed by the clear top coat.
We considered spray painting the old hardware, but decided it needed a fresher more modern look. This bar handles and knobs were perfect!
I love how the reflective surface of the paint picks up the color in the purple rug. That means it will look different depending on the colors that are adjacent to it.
